Archie Burnett is teaching a week long workshop in July as part of Peridance's Summer Intensive Workshops.
This class will introduce you to Waackin', a style of dance in the early 70's underground Dance scene which surfaced on the ever ground-breaking "Soul Train" and 'Voguing, a dance popularized in the underground Gay scene. Stigmatized by it's roots it manages to attract a newly found respect for the art form applicable and accessible to all.
Archie Burnett is a well respected force in the underground dance world. 30 yrs of dance in NYC's hottest underground clubs has made his style unique , strong and confident. He has performed and taught his craft in various parts of the world. His bodies of work range from music videos to features in Dance Magazines like "Dance Ink" and the Village Voice Dance section feature to performance coaching for up in coming recording artists. He is currently featured in the Documentary "Check Your Body At The Door" produced by dance historian Sally R Sommer Ph.D. who is widely recognized as a leading expert on dance in American popular culture, chronicling the lives and lifestyles of 6 dancers soon to be available in late 2007.
